What they are talking about is what I've called, in the past, a "hub and spoke" strategy, but I think they have come up with a much better metaphor than "hub and spoke" to explain the concept I'll save their metaphor for you to discover should you choose to get a copy of the guide for yourself. They also present some realistic and helpful advice on drawing traffic to your work with a blog and provide a good primer on getting started with social media ie sites like Facebook and Twitter.

I love art too, but what a tough profession! So many of the greats like Monet only got great after they died. Who wants that? Huge tuition, big land owners. It definitely takes a lot of persistence on top of guts to be an artist. Yeah, Academy of Art in SF is super expensive. They have some amazing studios and collections though and the talent they attract is incredible.
Anything goes with contemporary art which makes it fun to try and create your own splatter paintings and solid color canvases. That will come in handy in a lot of ways. I also liked how well-rounded the Guide is because of all those different perspectives. The first section is about eight pages long. It starts out with some stats about artists in the US, and an assessment of the problem: that too few artists are successful at making a living from their art.
It offers some insight into how they use the internet to promote themselves, and then provides a flexible outline of what your own plan of action should be. This section also explains how to attract the right kind of visitors to your blog or website which I fully agreed with and discusses other important considerations that you might not think about at first—like how to be authentic and approachable online. Tips on setting price points, a very brief mention of SEO, and the importance of being visible offline as well as online round out this section.
