Game review Downloads Screenshots Overall rating: 7. It's also the first traditional fighting game for the GameCube.
The influence of anime upon Bloody Roar: Primal Fury is apparent from the get-go. The game opens with a colorful animated sequence that shows the game's various characters doing their thing. You'll find that each character also gets his or her own brief anime-style epilogue when you finish the arcade mode. All the anime stuff looks pretty good, yet Bloody Roar's actual in-game graphics are much better--the 3D-rendered character models do an excellent job of flaunting the GameCube's processing power.
Though the animations of the fighters aren't exceptional and the default view of the bouts is just far enough away from the fighters that you can't really see them in detail, when the camera zooms in for a close-up of the winner of a match, you'll undoubtedly be impressed. Less than a year ago, you'd hardly expect to find such highly detailed characters in prerendered cutscenes, let alone right there being rendered on the fly. From subtle changes in the characters' facial expressions to tiny details seen in their clothing, Bloody Roar: Primal Fury looks great, and it runs at a perfectly smooth 60 frames per second.
The background scenery isn't quite as striking as the characters, though it still provides plenty to gawk at. The characters sound much like you'd probably expect them to. Their voices fit them well, though when they shape-change to animal form, they sound pretty generic. The game's bubbly soundtrack, consisting of completely uncool guitar riffs, is perhaps a suitable match for its anime-influenced character designs, though it can also get rather irritating.
All told, Bloody Roar: Primal Fury sounds about as good as most fighting games do these days. Its gameplay is best suited to those who aren't too serious about the fighting genre, though there's at least some level of depth.
The controls are simplistic--there's a punch button, a kick button, and a button that makes you instantly change into your character's beast form, if you can do so at the time.
You can also use the shoulder buttons to sidestep left or right, though such tactics are usually unnecessary. You'd do just as well to jam on either the punch or the kick buttons rapidly in order to produce long strings of dazzling attacks.
You might think that varying up your punches and kicks, or using throws or counters, would be a good idea. In practice, though, you don't really have to. Not against the computer, anyway. The computer is easy to beat by using the same moves over and over.
At higher difficulties, and especially toward the end of the eight-stage arcade mode, the computer starts fighting cheap. They drop the Iron Horde scraps and respawn instantly. I got 20 without even trying. It is sort of anti-climatic. However, you may feel inclined to follow Hellscream and check out the gate to Taanan Jungle. I will save you the trouble, there is nothing to see and you will get phased into or so Iron Horde elites.
I will say, it was a glorious way to die. Comment by Macondor Both bosses are inside the fortress straight ahead. Gorgorak is in combat pit and u can't miss him as he's huge, Azuka is up the hill to the right from where u kill Gorg. She is surrounded by adds, but they run off every few minutes and when they do, it's the perfect time to attack her. During the fight, she will summon an initiate that strengthens her sword.
Kill the adds if u need to, otherwise tank right thru it and burn her down. Great rewards Thisalee Crow as a follower, Sanketsu, L follower weapon and Blademaster's Necklace All in all a nice bonus for completing this event.
Comment by Voronkova Is anyone else having trouble finishing this? I get, maybe, 2 minutes before getting horde on me then I'm seeing grey in seconds. Am I missing something? Any tips? Comment by fords For those who are finding it hard fighting their way up the hill, there is a sneaky way to get in. I went round the left hand side of the compound and jumped over the wall to get to Gogorek. Easy peasy :. Comment by Azunyan Be careful at the end of this quest.
I found out the hard way that if you move too close to Grommash at the last part "Witness Grommash Hellscream's challenge" you may not get credit for it at all.
I tried to see what happens if I went too close to the Iron Horde orcs and Grommash himself and it seems like this is their way of flipping me off.
If it happens to you, you can safely drop the quest and re-acquire it from Thisalee Crow , but all the way back in Gorgorek's Fall in Gorgrond, and you'll have to kill Gorgorek and Azuka Bladefury all over again. Comment by TigraElune I was having problems getting the final quest step "Witness Grommash Hellscream's challenge" or something close to that to occur.
I had just jumped over the little hill from where you fight Azuka Bladefury to the next spot it showed the questline going, but doing this did not trigger it to occur properly. The solution, if you're having this problem, is to walk back down the path from where you fight Azuka to 67, 7 where you talk to Thisalee Crow in cat form and follow her up the path to 67, 9 where the event will now be taking place.
Be prepared to get attacked by a bunch of mobs that spawn around you. Good luck. Comment by rwsanderson Completed this morning.
All expected rewards were given. It is working properly. Comment by Ayrianna Once you're all done with this, do NOT hang out or try to go up and take a look at the wall. Soon after completing the quest, literally hundreds of elite orcs will spawn and kill you. I was lucky enough to be a hunter, and camouflaged my way out after I got back to my corpse.
Comment by Iliana Do NOT try to do this if, like me, you tried to do An Inside Job and stopped, deciding to come back later when you were less frustrated. These quests both take place in the same phase, so you will have both happening at the same time. I ended up dropping this one and finishing the other one finally! Comment by Angelhearth I never received the starter quest from Thisalee Crow.
I'm standing next to her now and there is no quest to be had.
